A living Church at the heart of Askrigg's story

Nestled in the heart of Wensleydale, St Oswald’s is a magnificent 15th‑century parish church with roots reaching back to the 12th century. Its striking Perpendicular Gothic architecture, battlemented tower, and spacious nave make it one of the most impressive churches in the Dales.

Step inside to discover beautiful Victorian craftsmanship, medieval stonework, historic memorials, and the much‑loved Minton‑tiled reredos. The church’s unusual mix of Norman‑style piers and later Gothic arches hints at the long and layered story of worship on this site.

Today, St Oswald’s remains a living centre of faith and community. Open daily during daylight hours, it offers a peaceful space for prayer, reflection, and welcome to all who visit the village of Askrigg.

'For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them'
